Social Compliance in Textiles
One of the objectives of the Solidaridad fashion program is to make a difference with respect to the workers in the garment industry.
On the market side we work with MADE-BY brands. On the production side, we work on integral long term improvement programs with suppliers. These are never based on certification alone, but consist of additional elements like capacity building & training, market access, improved trade conditions and dialogue with local civil society.
Solidaridad has focused on this integrated approach already and will continue to do so especially because of the fact these values-based and stakeholder orientated approaches can contribute to higher effectiveness of the certification and monitoring programs used in garment factories.
Strengthening of civil society
The program includes strengthening of local civil society (CSO) on certification systems and codes of conduct and how these can be used to the benefit of these CSOs. It is our conviction that a sustainable improvement can only be reached when improvement measures in factories are set up in interaction with civil society.
Solidaridad is collecting Best practises in social compliance in Solidaridad programs from MADE-BY supplier network. Best practises in this case refers to a successful approach in creating a difference. This is independent from the choice for the code of conduct, certification or monitoring system.
