Financial Controller


We are looking for an entrepreneurial finance professional for our European Solidaridad Office based in Utrecht, with strong analytical skills to assess financial risks and opportunities. You are a strategic thinker with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach. You have the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with global and regional teams.

Responsibilities

As Financial Controller you are responsible for the financial integrity of the organization, and for legitimate, effective and efficient use of budgets in line with approved budgets and financial procedures. You are responsible for the organization, execution and monitoring of the Planning and Control Cycle. The Financial Controller works in close cooperation with the Manager Excellence and Financial Integrity and together with the Financial Advisors and Administrator towards smooth internal administrative processes. You support the Management Team with financial control and management and provide direct guidance to finance colleagues within the organisation. 

The Financial Controller is an independent professional and provides solicited or unsolicited advice to the Managing Director (MD) and the European Continental Supervisory Board (CSB). The Financial Controller is also part of the Global Finance team of the Solidaridad Network, consisting of the Financial Controllers of the different regions. The Financial Controller participates in the Management Team (MT) regularly. 

Result Areas 

Financial planning & control 

  • Responsible for organizing, executing and supervising the financial Planning and Control Cycle within Solidaridad Europe, including delivery of the performance indicators; 
  • Responsible for the consolidation of the 4 entities in Europe, contracting and audits;
  • Supervises the financial administrative processes for Solidaridad Europe; 
  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information and establishes quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting; 
  • Supervises standards and guidelines for quality management related to the administration of the organization; 
  • Leads and coordinates the development of regional internal control systems, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of financial operations, the reliability of financial reporting, and the compliance with applicable (financial) laws and regulations. 

(Financial) Information 

  • Prepares financial reporting packages and statements to meet internal and external requirements; 
  • Assists the MD by means of preparing advice, financial analyses and other calculations that support the management process;
  • Analyses (the financial components of) global and regional plans, policy papers and other relevant documents, safeguarding the financial impact on the short and long term, as well as the consistency with existing strategies and policies; 
  • Acts as an expert contact point, providing  the MT and other stakeholders such as the CSB with advice on financial issues; 
  • Keeps an overview of the goals and budgets, and flags over- or underspending; 
  • Advises and controls the liquidity management of Solidaridad Europe;

Profile

The successful candidate has: 

  • At least 5 years of experience working preferably within the not for profit sector in finance.
  • Academic working and thinking level, with a relevant higher education degree in business administration, economics or finance, preferably RA or RC; 
  • Knowledge and experience with administrative and financial processes; 
  • Preferably knowledge of Salesforce, specifically Certinia (accounting software); 
  • Knowledge of budgeting, annual accounting, planning and control and analysing deviations from planning;
  • Knowledge of (international) accounting principles, ICT, HR, (international) legislation and quality management;
  • Strong understanding of rules and regulations with regards to Dutch not for profit organisations, like RJ650, ANBI and CBF;
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English;
  • Permission to work in the Netherlands / the European Union.

Our offer

  • A unique and rewarding job within an inspiring and international setting, starting as soon as possible; 
  • You will join Solidaridad Europe’s Excellence and Financial Integrity team in Utrecht, and will have the opportunity to work with an innovative and dedicated network of professionals in Europe and across the world;
  • A one-year contract with the possibility of extension, 36 hours/week; 
  • Gross monthly salary between EUR 4,024 and EUR 6,907 depending on relevant experience, based on 36 hours/week (salary scale 11 or 12); 
  • An additional holiday allowance (standard in the Netherlands) will be paid to the employee in May of every calendar year. The holiday allowance is 8% of the gross salary earned in the period from 1 June up to and including 31 May, prior to the date of payment;
  • In addition, Solidaridad pays an end-of-year allowance equivalent to 8.3% of the gross annual salary earned;
  • Solidaridad offers a non-contributory pension plan;
  • Contribution to moving expenses; 
  • Flexibility to work from home up to a maximum of 50% of working time;
  • Location: Utrecht, the Netherlands, with national and international travel required.
